Someone tried, unsuccessfully, to upgrade the firmware to 15.2(4)E8 but the update/upload process got interrupted.

Just re-run the upgrade process and use the option "/overwrite /dest 1" and all should be good.

Ok but my point was should I still attempt an upgrade even though this should proof that the IOS is still intact and not corrupt?

The IOS is "intact" -- to a certain degree.  However, judging from the error messages appearing, it would seem that this switch will take a lot more time rebooting. Normally, a switch takes about 4 to 5 minutes to reboot.  In this particular case, I would say the switch is taking about 8 to 9 minutes to boot up.

Your call what you want to do.  As far as I'm concern, re-running the switch firmware upgrade proceedure won't cost you anything.

At this moment i was still not sure, is this bug or some config issue :

i see the different version in while booting time

1. Error loading "flash:/update/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8/c2960x-universalk9-m z.152-4.E8.bin"

2. Loading "flash:/c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2a.EX5/c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2a.EX 5.bin"...flash:/c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2a.EX5/c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2a.EX 5.bin: no such file or directory

Are you trying to upgrade this switch?

Where did you get this image from cisco site - I see below error

..Image failed digital signature verification

As per your output seems to be ok for now? but still, trying to understand what causing this issue?

Thanks.  I'd rather resolve this issue before running into any issues with it.  I was not trying to upgrade the switch. This is a recently created switch stack. Don't know what to do.

It looks like all the switches running the same version now all of them,  if this is not a production environment.

Write the configuration for now. by issue wr command.

Suggest to hard boot again and connecting console and capture the information, do you see the same logs?

Post the complete boot process to see anything we can recommend here?

Does the IOS image come with switches ? or you have loaded?

Someone tried, unsuccessfully, to upgrade the firmware to 15.2(4)E8 but the update/upload process got interrupted.

Just re-run the upgrade process and use the option "/overwrite /dest 1" and all should be good.

IS that necessary because I successfully verified the IOS image file of all 4 switches in the stack with the command.

verify /md5 filesystem:filename [md5-hash]

"

As long as you downloaded from cisco, it not required to verify, but worth checking MD5 and compare with Cisco download site.

Ok but my point was should I still attempt an upgrade even though this should proof that the IOS is still intact and not corrupt?

Have not had the chance to reboot yet.

As far as I'm concern, re-running the switch firmware upgrade proceedure won't cost you anything.

as suggested and agree with @Leo Laohoo , when you get a chance and agreed downtime initiate the upgrade, so you will not see any more surprises later day in the middle of night crashes and need to run to work to replace.

pro-acting fixes will save a lot of time, lot of business money. unplanned downtime causes high loss.

Hello
Just like to add you could also try to remove the current boot variable and and re-add it.

more flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8

no boot system switch all
wr
boot system flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8.bin switch all
wr

show boot system switch all
reload

Leo was right, I ran the IOS update and overwrite the IOS on all switches in the stack and all is good now.

Did not want to mess with the boot settings on a production stack however it's good to know that it's an alternative option.

So I guess when adding a switch to a stack I'm supposed to manually install the IOS version of the other stack members before connecting it to the stack?

Yes, this is recommended.

I am not a big fan of the "auto-copy" feature because when used, the switch stack chews up CPU and take more than twice as long than doing it manually.
