Switch stack order 3850

Hello, I have a 3850 switch stack. I configured it using the commands below:

switch 1 priority 12

switch 2 priority 1

I then did a 'show version' and confirmed that the serial numbers matched my intended switch order.

However upon reboot, I noticed that the switch order had changed i.e. the serial number of my original switch 2 was now showing as switch 1.

How can I ensure that this does not happen ?

Thank you.

Reboot switch 2.

Hello, I did a reboot initially from the CLI after the stack was formed. Surely this would have rebooted both switches ? - or not ?

Thank you.

If switch 2 is currently the master and you want switch 1 to be the master, then reboot switch 2.
Once switch 1 becomes the master, change the priority of switch 1 to be "15". This will ensure that in the future, if the entire stack should reboot, switch 1 will always be the master.

Hi,

In addition to Leo's comments, you can also switch between the stack members by using the command:

redundancy force-switchover

I have never tested this before and not sure how it works if you have, say 3 or 4 switches in the stack as there is no option to add switch number (i.e redundancy force-switchover switch x). Also, priority 1 is the default, so I would use some other number (i.e 5 or 6) so, it is different than the default and easier to remember in case something changes.

Had this problem too but this fixed it
switch "current-stack-member-number" renumber 1

to be more specific was switch 4 of a stack so it will be switch# switch 4 renumber 1
yes to confirm and reload.
