Hello Experts,

I have newly purchased Cisco Stackable Switches.    but the issue im facing is that, all interfaces in the stack are showing as (shutdown/off).  even i tried to manually turn-on the interfaces using command (no shut),  but still all ints are showing down.

any idea, what could be the source of the issue ?

Output shows none of the ports are in shutdown (or administratively down).

But they are all in (unassigned YES unset down down) state. Although i have connected some interfaces with computers but still showing int down ...

Any idea please?

Pick a port that is currently connected and do the following:

1.  Command:  test cable tdr interface <PORT>;

2.  Wait for approximately 5 to 7 seconds;

3.  Command:  show cable tdr interface <PORT>;

4.  Post the complete output to #3.

Hello Leo,

here is the output of the commands you asked:

show cable-diagnostics tdr interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/1
TDR test last run on: July 13 07:35:40

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi1/0/1 auto Pair A 0 +/- 10 meters N/A Open
Pair B 0 +/- 10 meters N/A Open
Pair C 0 +/- 10 meters N/A Open
Pair D 0 +/- 10 meters N/A Open

TDR result shows the switch can detect a path of 10 metres and nothing after that. The fault is at the far end.

Dear Leo,

Then what solution you propose ?

The cable test shows someone isn't doing his/her job properly.

A cable is patched to the switch but at the far end NOTHING is connected to the cable.

Just think about it:  It is claimed that all ports are patched but the switch doesn't show a single port is active.

  • Are the details in the patch sheet correct?
  • Are the patch port terminated properly?
  • Seriously, is the patch cable connected to the computer?  Here's a good hint, look at the computer's ethernet port.  Are the LEDs blinking or not.  If they're not, then duh!, the port isn't connected properly.
