how many users u have and what configuration you are running on your switch ?

Hello,

although it is not good practice to have everything going over the default VLAN 1, it is quite a common setup, especially in smaller networks.

If you cannot ping the switch (what platform/model ?), make sure that you either have 'ip routing' enabled gobally, or the 'ip default-gateway' command configured. Basically, the IP address of your VLAN 1 interface is just like any other IP address. What do you have connected to the switch ?

Hi

Using the default vlan (vlan 1) is not a good practice and never recommended by security purposes, now if you are not able to ping the switch, you should see if the interface vlan has a correct IP address and subnet related to same prefix like the computers.

Now what you mean about: it should be dropping packets?
