What is the difference between CBS350 series switches and C1000 series switches

6 Replies 6

Hi

The best way is look into both Data Sheet. There will similarities and differences. But, I believe the main difference is CBS350 supports Layer3 while C1000 only supports Layer2.

The C1000 is also described as Enterprise class.

CBS/SMB range is the legacy Linksys platform that refuses to die (because it is "cheaper").

Catalyst 1000 is a cheap layer-two-only switch and one of last switches that still runs on legacy IOS code.

Which one is better will depend on what is required &/or how the switch is managed.  If, for example, the switch is not going to be managed at all (flat network), then CBS/SMB is better.  If the network has multiple VLANs and a lot of VLAN changes required, then Catalyst 1000 is better.

You are so funny, Leo!

All true, but if trying to choose between those switches, what @Flavio Miranda first mentioned, i.e. L3 capability, or not, possibly the most important difference.

That’s the question!? Sorry to be difficult, but I have asked that question myself and did some research. Well, you need to ask yourself what are you looking for and check the datasheet. That actually may not be good enough! If you are looking for a particular feature, you need to study the user’s guide. Good luck!
