Tagging DSCP values for Citrix traffic

Hello Everyone

I need to enable QOS for citrix.  I am not too worried about QOS on the switches but would like to tag the traffic so that it gets priortized on our WAN.  One of the problems we are having is Citrix when using a netscaler uses dynamic ports.  I am trying to figure how to make the port assignment static.  If you know how to accomplish that task would be great.  Assuming that i get the ports statically assigned how would i tag this traffic?

Is it possible to just tag traffic and not do the rest of QOS requirments on switches?

If someone could give me an example of tagging traffic via port settings and example of source and destination IP would be great.

Hi,

Use PDLM which does away with port numbers and works on the application, but try nbar first as citrix is well known.

I am reading the documentation now.  Is this an entire qos system or is it just a way to identify traffic?  Hopefully it recognizes the new Citrix clients which do multi-stream.

NBAR is a feature to identify traffic.  Whether you need a PDLM or what it "knows" depends on the version of NBAR.

Tagging identified packets alone usually doesn't provide any special treatment.  (You can also give some traffic special treatment without tags.)

I'm not current on NBAR and/or Citrix, but NBAR used to allow you to examine Citrix's (earlier?) subtype (so you could treat Citrix screen interaction traffic different from Citrix printing, etc.)
