the difference is mainly the size and capacity. Telco switches (mainly produced by Lucent/Alcatel, Nortel, and Nokia) can terminate and switch thousands of circuits. They are also capable of various multiplexing technologies.
An Ethernet switch in the traditional sense would be any LAN, Core or Distribution switch used to connect end user devices, servers, etc. at a business site.
