hi all ,
i have the following senario .
The cat 5 cables coming out of RJ 45 wall oulet are connected to pc's.
but their are issues with connectivity . how do i test if their is a layer one problem or above layer problems.
plz suggest me some testers so that i can check health of cat5 cables . before i can move to switch for checking vlans ?

You havent quite describe the type of connection problems you are having so there is quite a variety to check.Your Pcs should show if the cables are connected or not right? Guess thate where you should start. In case of concrete help, you need to describe the exact issues you are having.

its simple
when user connect their lap top to wall outlets . they are unable to connect .
how do i trouble shoot .
1) i need to check the health of cable from end to end .
2) if this succeed . then i can move to switch for checking layer 2 configuration .
i need some best cable testers that can detect loss of signal form one end to another end.
further new laptops dont have serial port for console connectivity . can u plz help me how to connect using usb port of my laptop and R5 45 console port of switches. (plz give me part no )
