Traffic loss power supply related?

Ton V Engelen

Hi

we ran into a very weird issue

Setup: two 6513-E core switches running VSS, both have two power supplies

We ve had some power issues regarding one power supply. So had it replaced but still seeing some issues

At a certain point all kind of traffic got lost yet we could not find anything causing this

Untill we shut down one of the two power supplies on one 66513-E, everything went back to normal.

Huh? Well, yes.

As i could not really believe it, i turned it back on a week later.

Result, traffic gets lost again

Turn off power, everything went to normal.

Anyone has a clue?

The power supply was replaced once already, could this be a chassis issue?

FW: s2t54-advipservicesk9_npe-mz.SPA.151-2.SY5.bin

For whats its worth, there s nothing in the logging, nothing to see reagding power supplies etc

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I would suspect this a software bug that is causing this. You may want to open a ticket with TAC and see if they recommend a different version of IOS. Very strange.

Hi

yeah its like water burning...

ok, i will do that, thank you!

Hi,

sure. Let us know what you find out.  I can understand if one power supply could not handle the chassis load but in your case, the problem appears when you turn on 2 power supplies.

Good Luck!
