Is it a fair enough and accurate statement to say that STP should never be turned off on switches in a L2 domain, even if a loop-free topology is deployed.

Oh yes! You dont want that. Your topology may be loop free but not human free
In my opinion STP should always be running...

I agree, Alvaro, especially since the overhead is actually pretty insignificant when deployed properly. You have a lot more to lose than to gain...
