Two ISPS into a L3 switch for load balancing.

Hello,

Network newbie here. So im curious if its possible to take two Starlink dishes and run a cat 5 cable from both(removing the starlink router completely) into a L3 switch where it will load balance. Most diagrams ive seen have the ISP running into a router and LANing into the L3 switch.

I guess what im wondering is, is it possible to just WAN both ISPS into the L3 switch. Removing the routers out of the equation.

Thank you!

We do not know much about your environment and that makes it difficult to give good advice. But based on the little that we know so far I will comment that in general an important part of connecting your inside network to outside ISP is to do Network Address Translation. That is frequently one of the functions provided by the router in the Internet connection. There are very few layer 3 switches that provide NAT. Unless your layer 3 switch does provide NAT then your suggested environment will not work.

How do understand a L3 switch would be better for LB vs. a router?

Perhaps the issue is because of Starlight "routers"?
