i want to upgrade them to 17.9.3

#copy tftp: flash:
Loading cat9k_lite_iosxe.17.09.03.SPA.bin from 10.X.X.x (via VlanX): !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
%Error writing flash:/cat9k_lite_iosxe.17.09.03.SPA.bin (No space left on device)

Likely switch's flash cannot contain two IOS files (not uncommon).
If that's the issue, you need to erase running image.

issue command - this will remove old IOS XE not active.
# install remove inactive
or
# request platform software package clean
then check the space and install it again.

In fact, i had already done an #install remove inactive ( before), but nothing seemed to happen.
is this command supposed to be fast? i waited 5 minutes. And I killed the process to return to the prompt.
Then i manually deleted the old pkg files.
retry an #install remove inactive, and i waited longer. And the command was executed untill the end.
The i was able to copy my new *.bin file and install it.
i still have 2 others stacks to upgrade, i'll see what happens, i will come and post a comment here.

just upgraded a stack of 4 switches.
#install remove incative : It was fast, much faster than the previous stack.
The software upgrade being enable, it updated all the switches.
The installation time and reboot took around 40 minutes.
Thanks.

May the one having issue reboot in maintenance window and try again clean up and upgrade.

This is known bug/feature.
Reboot the entire stack and try again.

I had this same issue, and a reboot fixed it.

The switch runs Linux, and when you delete a file, it is not acutally deleted while the file is open by another proccess. This means that unclosed files takes up the space required for an upgrade. This is why a reboot is sometimes required before an upgrade can be done.

I'm not a Linux expert, but generally no operating system allows you to delete a file that's currently "opened", especially by some other process/task.
What a reboot would do is eliminate whatever had the file opened, allowing the file to be deleted.
Possibly a better approach, if possible, would be to stop the process holding the file opened.
A potential issue with using a reboot, file space may still be considered allocated but unowned. To reclaim it, you may then need to run something like 'nx's fsck. (Possibly the OS boot will automatically free up such unowned allocated file space [or file space allocations pending in RAM until file closed - if so, with non scheduled reboot, poof, file space allocations never permanently recorded].)

Work arounds don't appear to include just simply rebooting will cure the described issue.
Oh, and what's described, being an issue, and how to correct, makes sense.

The above and rebooting are known workarounds. The issue will return over time.
In the past, I would recommend "upgrade the firmware". Nowadays, I am less and less reluctant to make that same recommendation because upgrading the IOS-XE firmware (to fix currently issues faced) will only make things worse as upgrading unleash more bugs.
Furthermore, this kind of workaround only reinforces my opinion that regular reboots (4 to 6 months for 3650/3850 &/or 12 months for Catalyst 9k switches) to keep the network "healthy" is the only direction. So far, I have not been proven wrong. Yet.

. . . my opinion that regular reboots . . . to keep the network "healthy" . . .
Reboots remediate memory leaks, memory fragmentation and memory corruption.
As software grows in size and complexity, and is subject to maintenance entropy, encountering more defects isn't surprising, what's surprising is that such software continues to work at all. ; )
To explain the issue, in a network kind of way, consider a media BER spec.
If the BER spec is constant as media speed increases your error rate over time increases proportionally to the speed increase!!!
For the same BER, one corrupted bit, seen on 10 Mbps Ethernet once every 10,000 days (about 27.4 years!) and, on 100 Gbps Ethernet, is now seen once a day!
With software, its "BER" improvement hasn't kept up with its increased "speed", so it appears its quality has decreased.
Possibly AI will improve software's "BER".
BTW, as I've (very rarely) have mentioned, I'm really not a network engineer, I'm really a software engineer.

I am having a reoccurring issue of not having enough space on 9200 to do an install-mode to install-mode upgrade. So I am now doing install-mode to bundle-mode to install-mode upgrades instead. This is much more reliable. I think to underlying issue is that the images have become too large for reliable have 2 install-mode images at the same time.
Another issue I have, is that one stack member have spend about 500MB on files I cannot see with "show flash-4". I have counted the size of all the visible files to be sure. I have also rebooted and upgrade the switch to 17.12.05 using install-mode to bundle-mode to install-mode.
We can see that flash-4 have about 500MB less free space
