I am unable to access the console via the USB port. I've read the USB is the standard port for console access in the newer switches, but both of these new 3850x I have, the USB con is not working at all. Putty cannot connect. I've downloaded the 3.1 driver, I know what com port it is, and baud rate and so forth is set correctly. The console light comes up when I plug into the USB con port. It just does nothing with putty though. However, the rj45 is working for both read and config access. Which is strange as I read the rj45 is defaulted to read only and you have to put in the "line con 0 media type rj45 switch 1" command to even allow config from the rj45...

I was able to download the driver and access the USB console port from a different laptop however. So I apparently have an issue with this laptop. Although it doesn't explain how I can do configurations from both console ports. Not at the same time, but I can switch between the two and enter configs. One is not "read only" as I have read.

Turned out to be a driver issue. I had to manually select the Cisco driver for the USB console cable. Once I did that, the device manager changed the description from "USB serial cable" to "Cisco serial cable" and all was well.
