Unable to connect cisco 2960 x to my Cisco 4507 switch

Hi

I have a Cisco 2969 X switch and Cisco 4507 switch.

I have configured G1/0/24 of cisco 2960 trunk port . i have left everything else default.

In 4507 G4/23 i have configured as trunk .

But the when i connect the switches its showing as not-connect.

If i connect the 2960 switch to any other L2 switch that is another 2960 switch with trunk config it gets connected.

But only when i connect it to my L3 4507 switch . its showing as not conneted.

I have tried connecting to other ports in 4507 switch also, its not getting connected.

If i change the speed to 100 Mbps it gets connected with half duplex.

I tried several options like forcing it to be full on both side and 1000 MBPS at  both side.  but non worked.

I even tired changing the cable. and port on both switch.

I have got 27 switches connected to my L3 switch . even i swapped the cable and the port still the same .  port is down

Hi,

Questions:

are these copper ports?

is the blade on the 4507 100 or 10/100/1000?

what is the output of "sh module"

HTH

Yes there are copper ports

If issue speed auto 100 and keep everything else default. . link comes up with 100 mbps. but if i try with  speed auto 1000  it does not come up .

Do you have the same issue if you connect the 2960x to a different module (blade 3) on the 4500, i.e gi3/23?

Can you post sh ver from the 4500?

If you are running an older version of IOS, you may want to upgrade to a newer version and try again.

HTH

Yes the issue is the same. Even if i connect to G3/23 or any other port . The issue is the same.

If i connect to any other L2 switch it comes up .

Seems to be like its not Auto negotiating at 1000Mbps.

If i issue speed Auto 100 at any side it comes up.

I will post you the version tomorrow.

2.2(25)EWA14 is a few years old. Try loading a newer version of IOS on the 4500.

Also the version of IOS you are running on the 2960x is pretty buggy.                     c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2a is available and a better version to use.

I would upgrade the 4500 first.

HTH

Hi

I agree with your suggestion. I had the universalk9-mz.150-2a. even with that the issue is same. Only these 2 switch i am having problem . Other 2960 48 port switches are working fine with universalk9-mz.150-2a IOS.

I have raised the TAC now.

They are suspecting the Software. So they have assked for 3 days time. The Register values are bit confusing.

Hi,

So they have assked for 3 days time

I doubt if you are going to get an answer in 3 days, as 150-2a in the newest IOS they have for this series. Since this is copper port issue I suspect a code upgrade on the 4500 may fix it, but than again the 2960x IOS versions are not very stable either.

Hi Reza

But a month back we had brought 3 2960 X 48 port switch and connected the same to the 4507 Switch it was working fine.

that's the reason we brought 2 2960x switch. But now this switch is not getting connected to 4507.

If i connect to rest of my L2 switchs it gets connected with auto full duplex and auto 1000 Mbps.

Hope they give me a solution ASAP.

Thanks for your support. I will keep you posted

Problem is rectified now .

I was asked to use

No power efficient-ethernet auto
