Unable to ping 993 byte packets

Any idea why, from my worksstation, I can not ping IP's on 2 6509's with subnets.  Iif the ping packet is greater than 993 bytes it will not respond.  From the router/gateway I can ping 1500 byte packets to the servers on the subnets.

The OS on these switches is old, but we just noticed this.  Everything else seems to be working fine.

12.1.19E and 12.1.11E

It is hybrid OS.

I can ping with size of 1000 byte from a PC to the 6500 and from 6500 to the PC with no issues.  There may be something with your IOS limitations, but if everything else is working fine then I wouldn't worry about it.
