Hello,
I have a new switch that doesn't have the latest version of firmware. When I try to add it to my stack it forces the existing switch to re-boot. Questions
1. How do I prevent this from hapening?
2. What is the easiest way to update the firmware on the new switch? It has no USB ports and I can't seem to get it connected to anything via ip.

Hi,
Before adding it to an existing stack, you need to install the same exact IOS as the rest of the stack.
To install the ios, log to the switch via console, select port and put it in a vlan, create an SVI for that vlan with an IP, connect your laptop to that port and give it an IP in the same segment as the SVI on the switch. Use a TFTP server to transfer the IOS to the switch.

I downloaded the Solarwinds tftp server but can't seem to get the syntax correct from my cisco ASA to my laptop.
my laptop is jdavila.pop.e-mds.com and my asa is XXX can you provide the correct sequence and command for doing this? Thanks so much

After upgrading the IOS as same as running.
Make sure you setup priority of the Switch - which one you like to master always, If not due to power loss, the Stack election process take effective.
