Upgrade a license from LAN Base to IP Base on a WS-C3750X-48P-L stack

Hello,

I do have two WS-C3750X-48P-L switches with LAN Base license stacked. I want to upgrade the license on each from LAN Base to IP Base.

Got .lic files from Cisco partner and stored them in flash:

shan2021#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

Tried to upgrade with the commands

shan2021#license install flash:FD01503Z1C5_20110330204317053.lic
Installing licenses from "flash:FD01503Z1C5_20110330204317053.lic"

But this does not work. The UDIs seem to be correct:

shan2021#sho license udi
Device#   PID                   SN              UDI
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*1        WS-C3750X-48P-L       FDO1503Z1C5     WS-C3750X-48P-L:FDO1503Z1C5
2        WS-C3750X-48P-L       FDO1503R0WU     WS-C3750X-48P-L:FDO1503R0WU

shan2021#

Guessed that maybe because they are stacked the process does not work, so was rebooting the second one and tried to upgrade the license on the first one during seond's reboot, but it did not work either.

I do not have a physicall access to the switches, so cannot try to remove stack cables.

Does anyone know, is there a special command to upgrade the license in case the LAN Base 3750X switches are stacked?

I know the upgrade on a standalone switch works fine, I tried on some other one.

I believe the .lic files are okay, looked into them and they do not seem to be wrong.

Need IP Base to add non-3750X switches and also because of Stack Power.

Guess maybe there is a specific command license add for a stack, something like

license install flash:FD01503Z1C5_20110330204317053.lic switch 1
but have not found any such.

Many thanks for help,

Vlad

Hi Vlad,

Make sure that the exact UID of each device including lower case and upper case letters are used to generate the license key, if not it will not work.

You can also generate the keys yourself by going to this link and loogin with your CCO account

Hello Reza,

many thanks for the advice. It was a Cisco partner that did it for us. The UID seem to be correct, please, see my text above.

Actually they provided three .lic files. One I apllied on a standalone switch ( not stacked ) and the process worked well. The two remaining are stacked and on these the process does not work. It's just my guess but maybe there is a bug in license utility and it does not work correctly if the switches are stacked.

Thanks anyway,

Vlad

We can now see that our Cisco partner has made a mistake while generating license files.

They should use WS-C3750X-48P-L:FDO1503Z1C5   instead of WS-C3750X-48P-L:FD01503Z1C5, in other words the letter O was replaced with the digit 0.
