upgrade from sup v to sup 7 in4510R

Hi experts,

we are upgrading from sup 5 to sup 7 in 4510R. and line cards we are using 4548G is ths possible to upgrade.

can we do upgradation of supervise engine without changing line cards.

Backward Compatibility of Line Cards:

When upgrading to a new supervisor engine for enhanced

capability, customers are given the flexibility to reuse existing line cards or upgrade to higher performance

line cards without changing the complete system,

Regarding your IOS upgrade please follow the below steps for successfull upgradation:

Performing a Software Upgrade

The software upgrade procedure supported by supervisor engine redundancy allows you to upgrade the Cisco IOS software image on the supervisor engines without reloading the system.

Step1:

Config#Switch# copy source_device:source_filename 

Step2:

slot0:target_filename

Switch# config terminal

Switch(config)# config-register 0x2

Switch(config)# boot system flash slot0: cat4000-is-mz.121-11b.EW

(Configures the supervisor engines to boot the new image)

Step3:

Switch# copy running-config start-config

(Saves the configurations)

Step4:

Switch# redundancy reload peer

(Reloads the standby supervisor engine and bring it back online (running the new version of the Cisco IOS software).

Note Before reloading the standby supervisor engine, make sure you wait long enough to ensure that all configuration synchronization changes have completed. )

Step5:

Switch# redundancy force-switchover

(Conducts a manual switchover to the standby supervisor engine. The standby supervisor engine becomes the new active supervisor engine running the new Cisco IOS software image. The modules reload and the module software downloads from the new active supervisor engine.

The old active supervisor engine reboots with the new image and becomes the standby supervisor engine.)

can you post idfferences bwteen two 4510R+E and 4510R-E models in 4500 series

Hi Rajat,

As you asked, below are the differences between 4510r+e and 4510r-e 4503-E, 4506-E, 4507R+E, and 4510R+E chassis are extremely flexible and
support either 6 Gbps, 24 Gbps, or 48Gbps per line-card slot.
The 4510R-E chassis are limited to 6 Gbps and 24 Gbps per line-card slot.

The 4510+E chassis has new mux-buffers to support 48G/slot in the redundant chassis. The higher speed mux-buffers result in the lower rated MTBF. We priced lower to encourage transition. Going forward,

I recommend R+E chassis purchases only.

And The 4510R+ chassis can more for a better price than 4510- chassis.
