I have a c3750 switch(old version) with image version c3750-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin.
Which I want to upgrade to c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12.bin(on Cisco website it says it is for c3750V2) is it possible without bricking or damaging the switch?
I think both images refer to similar hardware.

Since you are upgrading same train, not other one, so you should be good.
make sure you take backup of OLD config and IOS image from device to out of the box.
Due to space you may need to delete old IOS image and copy new image as advised step. so good to have in hand old IOS imave as backup.
delete old image
copy new image to flash
change the boot variable (if stage make sure change all)
wr and reload
