Upgrading a WS-C2960L-8PS-LL switch from 15.2(7)E0 to 15.2.(7).E7

Greetings,

I have a WS-C2960L-8PS-LL in our environment and would like to upgrade it from 15.2(7)E0 to 15.2.(7).E7 is there an upgrade path associated with this? I cant seem to find an upgrade path page on the cisco website like some other vendors supply. I tried to do the upgrade once and got the below output.

Loading c2960c405-universalk9-tar.152-7.E7.tar from 1.1.1.1 (via Vlan1): !!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!!!!O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!!OO!!!!!!!!!O!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!!O!
examining image...
extracting info (113 bytes)
extracting c2960c405-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7/info (418 bytes)
extracting info (113 bytes)
ERROR: Malformed `info' file
ERROR: Image is not a valid IOS image archive

I have used this code already to upgrade a different 2960 but that was a WS-C2960C-8TC-L going from 15.2(7)E4 to 15.2.(7).E7 and it was smooth. Thanks everyone!

The prefix (highlighted in red) means the file is meant for a 2960C (Compact Switches) and not meant for a plain 2960 switch.

Hi,

Looking at Cisco's site, below is the latest version for this platform. Also, there is no path upgrade. So, you can upgrade directly to this version.

c2960l-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7.bin

I keep getting this error when trying to upgrade the switch still.

archive download-sw tftp://10.60.104.69/c2960c405-universalk9-tar.152-7.E7.tar
Loading c2960c405-universalk9-tar.152-7.E7.tar from 10.60.104.69 (via Vlan1): !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OO!!!O!!!!!!!!!O!!O!!!!!!!!!!OO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O!OO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!O!!!O!!!!!!!!!O!!!!!OO!!!!OO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you are downloading the wrong image.

c2960l-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7.bin

c2960c405-universalk9-tar.152-7.E7.tar

Also, I only see .bin image. Not sure where you got the .tar image.

I have used the tar image to upgrade several other 2960's. They were all WS-C2960C-8PC-L and the archive download-sw tftp://1.1.1.1/c2960c405-universalk9-tar.152-7.E7.tar command worked fine.

The switch I'm having trouble with is a WS-C2960L-8PS-LL. I usually prefer the tar image because is does the md5 check, upload boot location and file all automatically without the need for system boot command ect..

Is this way of upgrading not supported on the WS-C2960L-8PS-LL? Or am I using the wrong image totally for the LL switch?

I think you are getting the wrong image for the WS-C2960L-8PS-LL switch. See below:

I posted a screen shot from Cisco's site
