I will be upgrading from Sup720 supervisors to the new Sup2T version in the coming weeks. I have two different configurations to migrate -
One 6509 is running redundant supervisor engines and the rest of them are not.
For the redundant supervisor install, is it possible to do the following -
1) remove standby Sup720
2) install new Sup2t
3) do a wr mem to force config to be copied over
4) failover to sup2t and verify network operations
5) if successfull, remove remaining Sup720
6) install remaining new sup2t
7) failover to last sup2t installed and verify network operations
I was hoping to not have to power down the chassis and request a major core outage to upgrade supervisor engines.
For the remaining 6509's that only have a single sup engine, can I put the 2T in repeating the process above switching over to it or would it be simpler to shut down the 6509, swap sup engines, copy the config onto the new sup and go from there ?

Ron,
SSO will not work since you will have two different Sups in the 6500, therefore you will not be able to sync the config.
I would go with the second option of shutting down, swap sup engines, copy the config onto the new sup and go from there. You definably need an outage window for this.

Thanks for both fo the replies. That was what I was suspecting but just trying to do my due diligence before we start scheduling things.

In a redundant configuration, both supervisors must be identical.
I'm afraid your idea won't work.
