Upgrading Romon on dual SUP720-3B 6509-E without downtime

I am upgrading a series of 6509s with dual sups, the first being Active and the second being hot. reason for upgrade is SSH is needed. Therefore the IOS requires more flash which I got but this requires an Romon update, which I am doing. Etherchannel is set up on both sups and when I pull out the Primary all stays up, I upgrade the physical flash..ect then when I go to put it back in the unit, the upgraded unit does not become Active so I have to pull out the secondary sup blade for the 1st to become active. This defeats the purpose because then the switchports on the 6509 all bounce and it takes a few minutes for the unit to become stable. Any suggestions? questions? Comments....

Thanks

Jeff

Hi,After upgrading the rommon you can use "redundancy force-switchover" command so that the other sup becomes active.Again you need to upgrade the rommon for the current active sup and do the switch over again.{once the other sup becomes hot)
