Uplinking CE500 Switch with unmanaged switch

Hi,

I have a CE500 switch which i want to uplink with a Dlink unmanaged switch.

The port which i have connected the Dlink unmanaged switch has ROLE as switch.

I have connected two Desktops to the unmanaged switch which are able to communicate with each other but these machines are unable to connect to the dektop connected to CE 500 switch.

Is there any other configuration required.

Hi Vivek

Can you check in your CE500 whether you have any option of changing the switch mode to trunk ?

Hi,

You should configure the port as "other" smartport role. This will be the best type as the "switch" role enables dot1q trunking. The D-Link is a flat switch from the sounds of it.

Thanks,

Michael

Cisco TAC.

The problem got resolved by selecting the port at switch only.

Thanks Anyways

fyi, you can also go into the web 'exec' menu and change the number of MAC addresses per port (and per smartport level) to enable this kind of connection. Be sure to write the changes out, or you'll lose them on reboot (from what I have seen).
