vc type 4 ?

Hi,

VC Type 4 is used for Ethernet VLAN mode within EoMPLS. i don't understand what is its usefulness ? indeed, PE can deliver native layer 2 packets without inspecting the .1q header (the vc type 5 can respond to all use cases ?)

is it true ?

please help me. i m really confused !!!!

Hi

An EoMPLS VC type 5 tunnels an Ethernet port and an EoMPLS VC type 4 transports VLAN over MPLS.

VC Type 4 is used for Ethernet VLAN mode.

VC Type 5 is used for Ethernet Port mode.

VC Type 5 passes all frames transparently, without ever inspecting VLAN tags. Simple. VC Type 5 is also called "raw" pseudowire.

VC Type 4, on the other hand, you preserve the VLAN tag, and assume that this tag is meaningful for the other end. VC Type 4 is also called "tagged" pseudowire.
