VLAN Mapping

Hi,

Is it possible to change the VLAN tag to a manually defined ID when crossing a .1Q trunk. Basically we want to connect customers between AS' over a layer 2 connection between the providers. MPLS CSC and QinQ are a good solution in this scenario but a no go. Manually mapping a VLAN tag from x to y at the border sounds, at least theoretically, achievable but Ive never seen it in practice or in text.

Is this an achievable goal and any ideas as the actual configuration. The team is split on feasibility :)

Many thanks.

To map reserved VLANs to nonreserved VLANs or map 802.1Q VLANs to ISL VLANs, use the set vlan mapping command.

set vlan mapping reserved vlan non-reserved vlan

set vlan mapping dot1q 1q_vlan_num isl isl_vlan_num

Two condition might be occur when you are configuring VLAN mapping.

1.If outer-vlan of dot1q-tunnel is same as trans-vlan of other mapping config , upstream traffic is not transferred. And

2. If trans-vlan of dot1q-tunnel is same as origin-vlan of other mapping config, traffic is not transferred.
