vlan-Switch

I am new to cisco and my company is transitioning from support soho to small and medium size business. I have found my self in a situation looking for the appropriate solution.

My needs are: 48 port switch/PoE - vlan support - I am going to be setting up vlans and using iphelper to enable DHCP through subnets.

I was looking at ESW-520-48P-K9 but I don't see that it has IOS - I thought I needed a layer 3 switch for this?

This unit has a web configuration SLM248P

but also has some flavor of unix but how do I know if I can pass dhcp through subnets on vlan? with this device?

I'm sure this is a hot mess im just trying to find a starting point.

Hi Jeff,

I'm not familiar with those models myself, but if you want support for 48 ports, POE, VLANs and IP Routing a Cisco 3560 would be a good start:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps5528/product_data_sheet09186a00801f3d7d.html

The above data sheet if for the basic 3560 models, but they do have "E" series and "X" series now which have more features. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend...

Hope this helps

Jonathan
