Hi All,
Ran out of hardware to test..:-).If I have 3 switches - SW1 is core and other 2 are access switches connected via trunk
to Core.
********************************
SW1: Core
VTP Mode: SERVER
vlan10
name finance
vlan20
name printers
vlan30
name HR
******************************
Access1:
VTP Mode: SERVER
vlan10
name finance
vlan20
name printers
vlan30
name HR
*********************************
Access2:
VTP Mode: Transperant
vlan10
name financedept01
vlan20
name printersonBldg1
vlan30
name HRbldg1
As the Access sw2 set to Tranperant, everything works fine. But incase if the VTP mode change to 'SERVER'- what will be impact on Vlan names (when compared to other 2 swtches).
Names remain the same or server updates change the names on the SW2..?
TIA

There will be no update to Core and Access1, because they have a higher VTP revision number.
When Access2 VTP mode is set to transparent, it resets the VTP revision number. So if you accidentally set it to VTP MODE Server, it will have no impact because it is of a lower revision number.
BUT just take note that best practice will tell you never to have so many switches in VTP server mode. You should have the Core in server mode and the rest in Client or Transparent mode.

The transparent switch will take the vlan names of the vtp servers if you change to server or client mode.

Thank you.. Does that cause any impact on the user connectivity..?
Thanks again

No impact. Its just a name for the VLAN. The unique ID is still the VLAN ID .
