Ok. So, we received our new VoIP phone system today. I don't have individual drops for each phone nor a separate switch. My goal here was to bring both the data and voice across one drop and distribute the traffic via VLANs. I am a CCNA, but it has been four years since I have put my hands on a managed switch, so I am trying a web-based interface.
I currently have two static DSL lines and am attemtping to use one for data and one for voice. I am only using 9 ports from the 20 port Cisco SG-300-20 switch. My goal is to use ports 2-8 for data, one dsl, and port 9 to divert traffic to the second DSL. The second DSL is plugged in to a EdgeWater VoIP router. The second DSL is plugged in to the WAN port on the EdgeWater and LAN 1 from the EdgeWater is plugged in to Port 9 of the Cisco switch.
I created a VLAN ID of 3 for voice and left the default VLAN 1 for data. Ports 2 through 8 are in trunked mode joined in both VLAN 1 and 3. Port 9 is in General mode joined in both VLAN 1 and 3 and set for tagged traffic only. I have used MAC Address based grouping; only for the VoIP phones MAC Addresses and all the phone MAC Addresses are under Group 1. I mapped Group 1 to VLAN 3.
When I plug the phone up, it obtains an IP address from DHCP. However, when I set the phone to VLAN 3 under it's internal system menu and reboot, it says failed to obtain DHCP information. I can delete it's VLAN ID info and it will obtain an IP address, but then it's traffic is running off of the same DSL as the data; which I don't want due to bandwidth constraints in the area.
Any idea what is causing the issue? Would it be the configuration of the VLAN on the Cisco switch or the EdgeWater VoIP router with the second DSL?
BTW, both DSLs are in bridge mode and opperate when directly connected to a laptop and individually as a data DSL. I've tried both to ensure it wasn't an error on either line.
