Please help...I want to assign a default gateway to a switch on vlan 2 but it is not pinging from my first client. The vlan status on my switch is currently down.  I need the second client to ping from the frist one.What do I do to solve this problem.

what is the switch model you are using? is it L3 switch? you need to have at least one port in up status which configured with VLAN to get VLAN status to up

connect to SW port, but the port must assign first to VLAN, are you assign VLAN to port of SW ??

if you have ceated layer SVI for VLAN2 (one of the menber of the port should belong to that VLAN ) that port should be up for the Layer 3 SVI to come up, if not that will be up./down)
