vPC connectivity sanity check

Jon Marshall

Quick question as it has been a while so out of practice

Can I connect a server with a vPC directly to a pair of Nexus C5548UP switches ie. don't need a FEX or anything in between ?

Also any gotchas I need to be aware of ?

Many thanks

vPC is necessary if I want redundancy to each server isn't it ?

Jon

@Jon Marshall,

N5k are L2 access ? Core swith are supported by which equipment?

N5K are indeed L2 access purely for a single cab to provide 10Gbps redundant connectivity to multiple hypervisors.

That is why we don't need FEXs and why I just needed to be sure the connectivity would work.

It will work! @Jon Marshall

Thanks for details.

Hi Jon!

I can confidently confirm that connecting hosts (servers, storage units, etc.) directly to a pair of Nexus 5000 switches (or any model of Nexus switch, for that matter) through vPC is fully supported and will work well. Fabric Extenders (FEXs) are not required in order to connect hosts to Nexus switches via vPC.

I hope this helps - thank you!

Hi Christopher

Many thanks for that.
