vPC for Server between Nexus 5K and FEX?

Hi,

I have a question regarding the configuration of a vPC for a server. So in a normal setup like in the picture below, you would establish the vPC on the FEX, connecting the server to each one of the FEXes:

My question is:

Could you also connect the server like this?

Since we want to distribute both our Nexus across two racks in different areas in the datacenter, this would be our way to go to keep up connectivity in case of failure of one datacenter (area).

Benjamin

Hi
definitely against best practices never seen a setup like that before and i dont see any designs in the vpc doc like that either , probably get flagged as an inconsistency but never tested it to see what happens

Hi Mark,

thanks for your quick reply. So your suggestion would be to use two Nexus in both datacenters?

Regards,

Benjamin

its highly unlikely a DC would fail if its setup correctly , dual everything even feeds from local electrical providers , it would nearly need to be a region blackout usually to take a hit like that , are you putting a 5k in each DC and then having a layer 2 connection between the dcs ? I have seen setups with 7ks and 5k s in both dc and then an otv link connecting between them , otv is used for extending dcs but it works between 7ks not 5s ir are you trying to connect the server across both dcs
