I wanted to setup a VPN to connect users out side of the office(on company controled computers) to NAS drives on the inside comany network to access their files.

First off is there another way to do this with out VPN? Secondly what would be the configureation settings page by page to get it to work (no sensitive files will be transfered).

I currently have a Linksys RV082 (192.168.0.1) connected to a Cisco 2821(192.168.4.1) and computers on the inside subnet 4 on the cisco router. This is also where the NAS drives are at.

My Setup:

Gigabit 0/1: 192.168.0.1

Gigabit 0/0: 192.168.4.1

Linksys switch: 192.168.0.1

Internet -> Linksys -> Cisco 2821

What setup should I use and what should the configureation settings be? Will I need any Software from Cisco?

Hello Michael,

first of all looking at C2821 sh ver you can see the feature set:

the more secure option is to use IPSec tunnels over the internet.

On the PCs you need a Cisco VPN client or other third party VPN client.

This can be manageable if the number of users is not high.

Other possible option could be SSL VPN

if your IOS doesn't support IPSec or VPN SSL you need to upgrade it.

You need also to verify if you have an AIM module on it that can perform HW based encryption.
