Hello everyone,
I actually have two Cisco WS-C4503-E in VSS mode. I need to upgrade those chassis from 4503-E to 4506-E using the same SUP 7-E and linecards as I'm using now.
I've made some research on Cisco's forum and I've found this :
Asymmetric chassis support
Catalyst 4500 and Catalyst 4500X VSS require the same supervisor engine type in both chassis.
The chassis can differ in type (i.e., +E and -E chassis can be in a single VSS) and also can differ in the number of slots in chassis.
VSS cannot be formed between different flavors of Catalyst 4500X (e.g., 4500X-16 and 4500X-32).
The upgrade plan is as follow :
- Proper shutdown of one VSS member,
- Unplugging all linecards + SUP from the 4503-E,
- Plugging all linecards + SUP into the 4506-E using the same slots number,
- Switch on the new chassis,
- Bring up the VSS.
I know that the quote says :
The chassis can differ in type (i.e., +E and -E chassis can be in a single VSS) and also can differ in the number of slots in chassis.
But I would like to have some feedback from someone who really did it.
Thanks by advance for your time.
Simon
