VSS failover without Powering off

Hello All,

I have to conduct BCP of 6513 switches in VSS. Is it possible to make active switch as down without powering it off so as to initiate standby taking as active.

Have you tried the redundancy force-switchover command?  That should force a switchover from the active unit to the passive unit.

Hi Corey,

I have done this but this will not make the switch believe other switch down. The standby will become active and vise versa. Moreover I have observed myself after typing this commands the management plane was down for approximately 30 seconds and when I again got the access to switch both the switches were showing up in "show switch virtual" command output.

Are you having Quad-SUP set-up or what ?

As far as I know , "redundancy force-switchover" can help from an active SUP to a standby one on the same Chassis , but not from a chassis to another .

You guessed it completely right. This is a quad sup 2T chassis.
