They promise. Waiting for that in September, but who knows... About licenses I'm not sure. Hope it will be supported in basic IOS like in case of 65s. Let's wait...

VSS on the Sup7E and 4500X is expected to be released around September 2012.
I do not believe Sup7LE will support VSS.
And does VSS will require Enterprise license ? or the IP base will be enaugh?
No official word but I also believe it VSS will be supported in IP Base IOS feature set.

As stated in the following document: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps10902/ps12332/at_a_glance_c45-696645.pdf
the Supervisor Engine 7-E and 7-LE will support vss with a IP base license.
The release date is not availible yet.
There will by a new 4500x serie switches replacement of the 4948 that will also support vss with 4 modulere slots wich can hold up to 16 10Gig sfp(+) or ethernet interfaces.

VSS support on Cat4500 and 4500-X will come by end of this year or early next year 2013. Engineering team is working on this to bring it forward this year but realistic chance will be towards the end of this year.
There will be a VSS license for SUP7L-E but no license required on SUP7-E/4500-X.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Hi,
Is there any info on the VSS license for SUP7L-E ?
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_27990-01.html
Under Table 5 - Support by Image Type; VSS is listed as available on IP Base (SUP7E only) and a plain Yes under Enterprise Services
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps10902/ps12332/at_a_glance_c45-696645.pdf
Under Table 1 - Minimum License for VSS; IP Base or higher (7-E) or special license (7-LE and Catalyst 4500-X)
There appears to be no option on the CCO configuration tools to add VSS license on 4500R+E chasiss bundles with for example dual SUP7L-E and IP Base
How are you meant to purchase/license VSS on 4500E Chassis + SUP7L-E ?
thanks,
Sez

From release note 4500x, Cisco IOS XE 3.4.x SG:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_27989-01.html#wp2650481
The 4500X switch the feature VSS is supported on IP-Base.
This is a contradiction with the pdf that Sez has share:

If you are going to use the 4500E with a supervisor engine 7-E (SUP7-E) the minimum license will be IP base.
If you are going to use a 4500E with SUP7L-E, the minimum license is IP Services.
If you are going to use a 4500X switch, the minimum license is IP Base.
