Hey everybody,
I'm currently working on a presentation regarding VTP and I have a couple of questions about VTP advertisements that I just can't find an answer to (and don't have access to actual equipment right now).
I have underlined the statements that I'm most in doubt about :)
As I understand, this is the content:
Global:
VLAN IDs: ISL or 802.1Q
802.10 SAID values: Something for token-ring i suppose..
VTP Domain name: Self-explanatory
Revision number: Self-explanatory
Update identity and timestamp: What switch made the changes and propagated them.
Md5 digest configuration and MTU size: A bit unsure here.. MTU size for each VLAN, but what md5 configuration are we talking about?
Frame format: Help?
For each VLAN configured:
VLAN IDs: This would be VLAN number i suppose
VLAN Name: Self-explanatory
VLAN Type: Private-VLAN, RSPAN would be my guess?
VLAN State: Not sure?
For VTPv3;
Primary Server ID: VTP Server that is configured as Primary-Server
Instance number: My guess would be MSTP Instance numbers?
Start index: Huh?
I hope someone can help me out
Thanks in advance!

Global:
All the links between the switches must be trunk 802.1q to allow multiple VLANs (tags) to pass on the same interface
VTP Domain: There are three types
1- VTP Server: where you can add delete rename VLANs,
2- VTP Clint: receive the VLANs information from the VTP server, not allowed to add, delete, or rename VLANs,
3- VTP Transparent: Forward the VLANs information, you can add, remove, rename local VLANs only
-VTP Domain: A domain (NAME) must be the same on all of the switches participating in the VTP
-VTP Password: A password must be the same on all of the switches participating in the VTP
-VTP Version: There are V1, 2, and 3. The version must be the same on all of the switches participating in the VTP
Revision number
Related to the VTP advertisement revision number tells VTP receiver whether or not it is to ignore the VTP advertisement.
