VTP - Migrating Server to other Switch

We have 2 VTP Domain working in our network. We are in process to migrate 1 of VTP Server mode from Cisco 6505 to Cisco Nexus 5596(currently Client of C6505) being new Core switches. All switches have their equivalnet peer (i.e C6505 with C6505, N5596 with N5596, N5548 with N5548 etc).

VLANs from Other VTP Domain will also be re-created in new VTP Server.

Would like to know about;

1) Steps doing this migration.

2) Impact of this migration in production environment and STP issues..

Could you please provide some more information about the two different VTP domains (number and types of switches, topology, number of VLANs, etc.) and the way they are interconnected now?

Are you planing to change the topology?

Hello

On the nexus, change the vtp mode to transparent then to server - this will reset the revision number to 0 then it will inherit all the vtp database from the existing vtp server ( 6500)

Then demote the 6500 to either client or transparent.

Just to add to Paul's response, set the to-be-added switch to transparent (or off - if supported) BEFORE connecting to your existing VTP topology.

Of course, you'll also need a VLAN trunk between the switches to convey VTP info.  You may also need to configure VTP domain and VTP password to match your existing VTP topology's values too.
