hi,
i'm going to convert a group of LAN switches to VTP version 3.
these switches are currently running MSTP.
my questions are:
- do i just issue vtp primary or both the vtp mode server mst and vtp primary mst on the chosen switch to be VTP primary server.
- will this change cause a brief outage (STP re-calculation) or is it a safe command to execute?

Hi
In order to enable a VTP ver 3 server, and reply MST you need to do:
Configure Terminal
- vtp mode server
- vtp mode server mst
- configure vtp parameters like domain, password, version, etc.
Privileged User mode.
- vtp primary force
- vtp primary mst force
and optional
- vtp primary vlan force
If everything is configured properly on the client and server, the server will replicate the config to the clients.
Now, my recommendation is make any change of this type during an approved maintenance window and get backup config before to proceed.
Hope it is useful.
:-)
