What happens to DNA Advantage licencing when it expires?

A customer currently has DNA Advantage licensing which is up for renewal, but they aren't using all the features that come with it. My question is what happens to the license when it expires, does it downgrade to Essentials? Do they need to purchase Essentials? I want to make sure that is it does downgrade, that Netflow services will still be active & that it wont be affected.

This Cisco Community  discussion seems to say that Netflow will remain active.

Do we need to recommend a renewal of DNA Advantage or just let it expire & still ensure Netflow works?

Thanks in advance.

The license isn't enforced on the device, so everything will continue to work. But you should renew to stay within licensing compliance with Cisco.

If the devices are managed via DNAC, then I would highly recommend to renew the licenses.

when it expires it doesn’t downgrade to essential, basically you continue to use the device with network advantage licenses which are perpetual (never expire) but you may loose advance features like assurance as well as other features recommended in the post you shared.

Can I therefore assume that Netflow will continue as required if the devices are not managed by DNAC.

I ideally want to move the customer to DNAC/CCC as Prime is EOL soon.

It will continue to work when the license is expired, but Netflow is part of DNA Advantage and will require the licenses to be renewed to stay within licensing compliance. See the following matrix for what features are included with which license: https://www.cisco.com/c/m/en_us/products/software/dna-subscription-switching/en-sw-sub-matrix-switching.html

As recommended below it will work but you will be out of compliance, legally you are not entitled to use it and TAC wont support.

to run full flexible Netflow which allows collection of flow data from every packet and stay compliant you will need to renew licenses, moreover you mentioned you were planning to migrate to DNAC to advantage license would be a good idea.

If you choose to not renew licenses you can use sampled flexible Netflow without DNA license and stay compliant. The sample size is a configurable parameter.
