The web is full of documentation of MSTP.
The advantage is, that you don't have a STP-Instance for every single VLAN - you can create one ore more instances and map your VLANs to the instance(s).
Your switchs don't have to process BPDUs for every single VLAN - only for the instance(s).
Where can you use it?
Well, you have to find out if your switches support MSTP (IEEE 802.1s).
It's compatible to the older versions (.1d/ .1w), but you don't have the benefits in this case.
