what's the difference between vrf definition and ip vrf forwarding?

I want to config vrf,but i found two config methods:

  vrf definition xxxx

  ip vrf forwarding xxxx

what's the difference between vrf definition and ip vrf forwarding ?

Device info:

WS-C3750X-48 (c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin)

...is for multi-protocol VRF (ie IPv6) and should be used or migrated to where available.
