jillesmiedema,
I haven't used that type of Cisco switch myself but did some research and it looks like there is no console port on this switch. It appears to be set up via a GUI application.
See this link...
which states this...
The Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Series switches are designed for ease of use. The switch is initialized through the GUI Device Manager; no console cable or terminal emulation application is needed
As far as help setting this switch up please see the following link which should get you started in the right direction...
Hope this helps you out. Let us know how it goes.

i bought some secondhand one out of 2007 newer used , new unpacked never used, for a tryout but i cant access them by vista or windows 7 , they are delivered with the famous blue console cable from cisco , i 'll try with a windows xp computer. also cisco network assistant 3.1 one doesnt access them on vista 32bit or windows 7 64 bit.

Cat Expresses really do not have console port. You need to make some manipulations with a button on Catalyst face to get access to it. Manual is a good thing, do what is written and you will get access.

after studing the quick start guide and the user guide , and googling console port cisco express 500 , reading
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6545/prod_literature.html which is a very good starting point , i must say for this switch i cant find anything about a console port.

problem solved: no console port. i can get connection by http , i was misguided because if i used dhcp to connect to the switch the computer gets an 169.254 address, and the switch setup port has 10.10.10.1 host address.
