On certain consumer shopping sites...Cisco equipment is LITERALLY running at prices like $27,000.
That's more than a car and a small house.
I need to understand the reasoning behind such pricing.
Is anybody else bothered by this?

Of course it bothers many potential buyers. Most buyers want to purchase items as inexpensively as possible. Fortunately, Cisco isn't a monopoly and there are other network hardware vendors generally offering network hardware for less cost. You'll need to decide whether Cisco's higher cost is actually worthwhile. Many find Cisco's additional cost acceptable when they factor in features unique to Cisco, that they believe they need, and Cisco's reliability (the latter, Cisco's equipment usually works as it's supposed to, and if it doesn't, they usually will fix it).

Everyone in the industry knows that with Cisco gears, it's a you-get-what-you-paid-for.
