Why is "IP" used in a command

I'm studying for the CCNA and I'm trying to get my commands down when I type "IP" what does that indicate for the command.

Regular IP command

access-list

cef

default-gateway

default-network

dhcp

domain

domain-lookup

domain-name

flow-export

forward-protocol

ftp

host

local

name-server

nat

route

routing

ssh

tcp

show IP commands

access-list

arp

bgp

cache

cef

dhcp

eigrp

interface

nat

nbar

ospf

protocols

statistics

rip

route

ssh

I know I don't need to know all these command (but some of them) for the CCNA but why do they all begin with IP what does the IP indicated for the command. For instance why do I need to use ip dhcp and not dhcp or ip interface brief.and not just interface brief.

It's just the way IOS is written, the others are sub commands. That's my thinking anyway.
