WS-C3524-PWR-XL-EN Inline power vs. PoE

I have an old  WS-C3524-PWR-XL-EN that I was hoping to run some old Meraki MR-12's on.

I guess I don't understand the difference between Inline power & PoE.

I thought that the only difference was the amount of power.

Inline = 7w

PoE = 15w

But the spec sheet says that the MR-12 only needs 6.5watts so I thought that it would work with Inline Power...

Anyone been down this road?

Hi

There are different types of poe , the MR-12s use 802.3af which is relatively new, the 3524 is old an uses pre industry poe standard only and does not support 802.3af that's whay it wont work its not the watts its the compliance

You could buy a IEEE 802.3AF-compliant power-injector that will make it work on the switch
