No there is not intermediate required for these blades , I use them in our DC we jump ios versions all the time to whatever is the most stable , you can move between 12 and 15 fine
Cisco they don't have 1 selected on the website for that model in 12 or 15 , always try and stick with the MD release rather than ED as its main deployment so SE8 should be ok
