Hello, brought WS-X45-Sup6-E and when i was trying to install on a 4507 chassis no light comes on including the status light on the supervisor engine. tried to refer to Cisco documentation and it says if no light comes up the supervisor engine is disabled. Is there a way to enable this supervisor engine?

Thanks

Hi Benyamt14,

Can you tell us your chassis type?

The following chassis support SUP6-E, you can check the respective slots as well.

Table 2. Cisco Catalyst 4500-E Chassis Slot-Assignment Options

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/catalyst-4500-supervisor-engine-6-e/product_data_sheet0900aecd806df543.html

To power on/off a module you can use the command

4500(config)#hw-module module x power

But supervisor slots can not be disabled. So it should not be the case.

Thanks,

Ashish

Hi Ashish, thanks for your reply. the exact chassis i am using is WS-C4507R-E. I did try to install it on slot 3 and 4 and both times no light comes up on the supervisor engine.

Please check the link below on LEDs on table 1.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/configuration/notes/78_18337.html

Supervisor modules can not be disabled so as long as module is fine it should boot up. If you have another chassis you can try installing the supervisor in that chassis. Make sure it is seated properly.

Thanks

i have tried it in another 4507 chassis and the result is the same - no status light. the supervisor engine is brand new and seated properly. does this mean that it is dead on arrival? did you have a look on the cisco installation and configuration notes on the link?

thanks
