Cisco MSE 8000 can't login to supervisor blade after upgrading to 2.3(1.32)?

Hi Folks,

My client upgraded their MSE 8000 Supervisor Blade from 2.2 (1.17)  to: 2.3(1.32) and now they can't web into the blade any longer? I had them try different browsers and they tried IE and Firefox with the same results.  I also had them type in http:// and http:// before the IP address of the Supervisor blade with no luck.  I didn't see any direct warnings in the release notes suggesting that their password would change during the upgrade, so I'm kinda at a loss, any ideas of what our next step should be?  I'm guessing we can serial into the blade and possibly reset the password but figured I'd see if anyone else had any additional suggestions.  Thanks for your time and help.

Hi,

Is their login/password failing, or are they unable to reach the web GUI at all?

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for responding.  My customer gets to the log in screen with either IE of Firefox but his password gets denied.  Before the Supervisor Blade was upgraded from 2.2(1.17) to 2.3(1.32) he was able to log in without any issues. Did something change between those releases in regards to existing admin passwords that could negatively effect logging into the web interface?

When we upgraded our supervisor blade, I didn't see or notice any negative effects, or had login issues.

Are there other accounts created on the supervisor that you're able to try and login with?

What happens if you downgrade back to 2.2(1.17), are you able to login then?

Hi Folks,

Unfortunately my client only has a single admin account and we can't downgrade the blade because we can't log into it currently.  Does anyone know if there is a way of changing the password to the Supervisor blade via command line using the console connection into the blade.  I've found the baud rate that needs to be used but no commands to do so.  Thanks for your time and help.

Hi,

Unfortunately you would need to perform a factory reset to recover the password, see the following documentation for more information:

You will need to reboot the supervisor, factory reset needs to be done right after you see the message 'Cisco TelePresence   x.x(x.xx) (Build x.xx(x.xx)) starting'

Initial web login will be admin with no password. 

I would advise gathering up the correct 8050 blade activation key and ensuring you have all of your screen license keys handy when performing this.

 

Also, are you using the advanced security key at all on the blade?

Edited this post, you will not need to reseat the blade if you are able to run the reboot command from console.  If you are not able to reboot it from console, you would need to reseat the blade.

Thanks Jonathan,  Right before you sent your reply I told him to try the factory default user name:admin with no password and he was able to log in.  I'm not sure why the upgrade adjusted the log in to the factory default?  Maybe he never changed the default in the Supervisor blade and was using his password for his 8510, hence the factory default working for the Supervisor. I copied and saved your reply in case in need its guidance in the future. Again, thanks for your help.
