If I'm not mistaken with the virtual VCS you can install it with a 'demo license' that can be used for lab/testing purposes, does the same apply to virtual Conductor?

Correct, VM VCS come with 3 registration, 1 traversal and 1 non-traversal “demo” license and these license valid till install release key.
TelePresence Conductor currently have only release key which will activate 30 MCUs management capability and no “demo” license (no time-limited release key) is supported in current version.
