Could a Lutron electricity system be controlled from Cisco touch 10 SX20 through Lutron's telnet access point?

Hello,

I'm trying to control our Lutron electricity system through the touch pad Cisco touch 10 SX20.  I'm trying to find a way to do this through Lutron's Telnet integration protocol, but cannot find specific commands on connecting from Cisco to telnet in the macro settings.  Is there a specific or better way to do this?  Would I need to create an external program to do this?

Thanks

The codec is not able to make an outbound telnet connection.  You would have to see if the Lutron (i have no experience in these) is able to accept commands via HTTP - in which case the codec could do it via a macro.  Alternately, you'll need to have some other device (a basic Raspberry Pi could be used if you don't have other capable infrastructure) that would monitor the codec for your UI button presses on the Touch 10, then it could trigger the appropriate telnet connection to the Lutron to do what you need it to do.

No, directly controlling a Lutron electricity system through Cisco Touch 10 SX20 using Lutron's Telnet access point isn't likely possible. Here's why:

  • Different protocols: Cisco Touch 10 SX20 likely uses a different protocol for communication than Lutron's Telnet. Cisco might use their own proprietary protocol or a standard like SSH (Secure Shell).

  • Cisco Touch limitations: The Cisco Touch 10 SX20 might not have built-in functionality for Telnet access or macro creation for complex control like dimming lights.

There are better ways to achieve your goal:

  1. Integration platform: Look for a home automation platform that supports both Lutron and Cisco systems. These platforms allow communication between different devices and create automation routines.

  2. Lutron app: Lutron offers a mobile app for controlling their systems. This might be a simpler solution if you only need basic control.

  3. Professional help: Consider consulting a home automation specialist. They can assess your system and recommend compatible devices or programming solutions.

While Telnet might be an option for Lutron control in some cases, it's not recommended for the Cisco Touch. It's less secure and requires technical knowledge for commands.

For Cisco Touch specifically, creating an external program to control Lutron is complex and might not be user-friendly.

Actually, I figured it out. I wrote custom code to do this and the Telnet commands .
